I like that each season is different, like a long in-depth horror movie. I like that many of the actors and actresses who come back as something else. However, there are problems I have with the show as well.
Murder House:
I don't really understand how the wife forgave her husband for what he did. Actually, I can see how - but what I am really missing is the when. It seemed like at some point she just stopped being mad at him. She almost seemed like a few steps from killing him in the beginning. Then, suddenly they are together again.
I understand they were both suffering from the horrible tragedy of their child's death. But, he cheated. And from some of the things that were said, I get the feeling that it wasn't just one person one time. It was more than once with more than one person. Yet, not even a year seems to pass and she is suddenly ready to sleep with him when not that much earlier she didn't even want to hold his hand in the car.
It seemed too abrupt.
It is possible this is serious over-thinking and this can all be explained in the line she says in the first episode, "I suppose we need each other". I can't guarantee this is accurate, but basically she meant that they had spent too much time together, they had gone through so much together and suffered so much together that even though they didn't really love each other the same way--they couldn't really see themselves without the other anymore.
Also, the leather suit is kind of weird. And doesn't seem like it actually makes sense. They just found it in the attic with no real idea whose it was or if it was clean, so why was the wife so okay with him coming in with it on for sex randomly? If my husband put on some random leather suit (especially one that was someone else's) and came into the bedroom, didn't say anything AT ALL but wanted to have sex--I'd have been freaked out.
Overall, I think this was my favorite season. It had the classic horror movie feel to it.
Asylum:
The psychologist seemed far too genuinely concerned about the people in the asylum. I get that it increases the effect of the twist, but it isn't like the twist is saved for the ending. It is only a few episodes later really. And it just doesn't fit with the character they are trying to make him out to be.
Overall, I think that there were some really good elements but some others that fell flat. Like the aliens' thing, was that really necessary? And the most horrifying things were the experiments being done, but they were never really of any focus. Most of the focus was on Bloody Face and the Nun's Possession. But the possessed nun actually seemed to run a nicer institution than the previous nun, at least for a while.
Anyway, still a pretty good season.
Coven:
The ending was a pleasant shock. However, I felt that there were fewer twists than the other seasons. Murder House had some big twists, especially in the ghost's backstories, and the ending. Asylum had some major twists as well. However, this didn't really. There were some, but a lot of what happened - you could see happening. Except for the one scene with Zoe, Madison, and Kyle. That was a little surprising.
Overall, I'd say this was a good season and if anyone is interested in the show but opposed to horror - I'd say this is one of the better seasons to watch. There are some creepy moments, but overall - probably one of the least scary seasons. (Except Freak Show, which - once the clown was gone - wasn't really scary anymore.)
Freak Show:
So far, I don't like the flashes to the future/present or whatever. Especially since some of them are just thoughts not something that actually happens. Also, I didn't like that Matt Bomber was murdered. Though, that isn't about the plot. It is just about me thinking he is a good actor and an attractive one and wishing he had been on longer.
I also wish that we could see more of their performances. You see some sword swallowing and you see Elsa singing a lot, which really is not something that needs to be shown in every episode. You find out that Jimmy juggles, but there are a lot of people on the show that I am curious what they do. Or if they do anything. Especially Maggie, she tricked Elsa, but does she actually perform or have a booth. Or does she just hang out there?
I feel like this season lost in itself in the 'freak out' factor. I mean, Maggie works for the bad guy, but then does literally nothing for him at all. And he kept threatening her but never did anything. Then he shows up and does nothing. Then, in the end, he does something but didn't need to bother with anything else he had done previously to do it. I mean, there was so much focus on Maggie and Jimmy. But nothing really happened with them. Then the twins. Not a whole lot happened with them. Then the end just slaps some bows around and VOILA everything is resolved. You could basically watch the first two, then skip to the last episode and not really miss out on much.
Still, overall, I enjoy the show and am looking forward to the next season.
