Overall: This was the first app that I've tried like this. It was recommended to me by a friend, and at first I was really skeptical. It seemed kind of silly and weird. I mean, a dating game with animated characters? Kind of weird. But it was actually kind of interesting. It is basically a story where you are the main character. Like the stories people used to tell on Quizilla. You choose the character you want your romance to be with.
After trying this I tried two others, which I will also review later (maybe). Having tried three, I now have a better idea of what things to review. But, hopefully, will improve with practice.
I have not completed all the characters yet, so I will go back and add more about individual characters as I complete them.
Summary: The main character awakes with no memory of her past, only her name. (In one of the versions, she also remembered her horse's name.) Which is when she first meets whichever character you choose. She then goes to stay with the group as they fight the merciless Taira and recover the Three Sacred Treasures.
Issues: There are some grammar issues with the sentences. It is still easy to understand. There are also some times when the characters names are swapped. But it is pretty easy to tell between the MC and whoever she is talking to.
Main Character: The main character is pretty consistent through all the ones I've done. She wants to be helpful. She tries by helping clean and cook. She is very positive and loyal to her family's legacy.
I do find her annoying at times though. She is kind of clueless. She doesn't seem to process when she is being flirted with even when it is obvious to everyone else. Also, every story has one moment where she learns something important and then doesn't share it with anyone. In all the versions, I've done they assume that the Taira already has the Three Sacred Treasures. In one, she is kidnapped and finds out they don't actually have the Three Sacred Treasures. When they get her back, she doesn't bother to tell them that the Taira don't have the treasures.
The Guys: ( * means I finished it/ ~ means I haven't started or gotten past the half point) - Not including Yoshitsune, at this moment.
Enya*/Goyo*/Hyosuke*: The Flirtatious Type.
Just a heads up: Goyo and Enya never seem to exist in the same story line. Or if they do, one is much more dominant in appearances. (Perhaps because of the personality similarities.)
Another note: Yoshitsune seems to have a crush on her, at least in the beginning, in all routes.
Enya:* He is the first one I tried. He is very flirtatious. And very loyal to Yoshitsune. His route was nice. He was sweet and it was nice for the first one I tried.
Yoshitsune also fancies her. He even tells her so at the end.
Goyo*: He is also very flirtatious. I liked his route. It got a little complicated in the end when you find out about Goyo's past.
Benkei likes her in this story. He tells her and even asks her if she will consider being with him, even though he knows she already likes Goyo.
Hyosuke*: He is kind of a flirt, but not as much as Goyo or Enya. He also seems to have two personalities, in a sense. Whenever he is dealing with Taira he is scary and pretty violent. When he isn't, he is much more light-hearted.
Mizuki*/Kazemasa*/Benkei*: The Silent Type.
Mizuki:* He is quiet and kind of rude. He loves horses. He hates nobles. He seems like he cares, but doesn't know how to show it. She earns his respect by continually trying to help and not just acting as a "noble".
Kazemasa:* I loved Kasmasa's route. He wasn't my favourite character (I must confess, I like Benkei and Enya) but his route gave me the best view of other characters. He is so quiet that you see more of the other characters. And there are some really funny lines.
They all seem to have a crush on her, and her cooking. But Yoshitsune seems to be the most interested in her, especially in the early chapters, but he pretty much always is.
Hyuga: "He is like a big, manly pile of rationality, wouldn't you say?"
Enya: "Spectators, keep quiet. So, uh, hey *character name*. Whatcha doin' tonight?"
Benkei*: He is the quiet, socially awkward type. He is sweet, but inexperienced so he is easily misunderstood. He worries like crazy, especially about the Main Character. He has an interesting past, and not as dark as some of the others.
Sohma: The Brotherly Type
Sohma~: He is the big brother figure. While his route has some funny moments, I'd say it is currently my least favourite. She establishes him as the big-brother figure early on in the story. Then, he continuously says he likes her like a little sister. But she is sad anyway, because she likes him as more than that. But it seems a little incestuous that they keep emphasizing the 'brother'/'sister' relationship and then making it about how she likes him. She then remembers him as her brother, and it makes it uncomfortable to read. Before continuing I went to Google to find out if they really were siblings and discovered I wasn't the only one that found it kind of creepy. Some even talked about how they changed stories after. (spoiler alert: she is adopted, at least according to someone online. I really hope so.)
I ended up not following along. Even though I know they are adopted (or am pretty sure), it still doesn't feel right. And I don't want to read more of the 'but he is my brother, but I love him' drama.
Mizuki also likes her.
I do like one scene in it where Goyo is flirting with her and Mizuki and Sohma each grab one of Goyo's shoulders in a total, "Don't even think about it" moment.
Hyuga: The Sadistic Type
Hyuga:*He is the sadistic type. He borders on bullying. There is a major plot twist! Like, major! Which was interesting, though. It does seem strange if you have seen him in other stories. I liked this one, it was a little darker than I would have liked at one point, but it came back and ended well.
If you like this kind of game, I would recommend this one. You get to see more than just the character you pick which makes it seem more
